Folk at the Fleur 2010 - Traditional Folk Music in the Village

May was a busy time for traditional music in East Hagbourne. At the start of May, the Horwich Prize Morris Men visited us from "up North" and played and danced in various locations aided and abetted by their East Hagbourne representative, John Stanley. The Morris Men led the procession of fun runners and walkers to the start of the fun run on May Day Monday.

There was a very successful family barn dance in the village raising money for the charity Unique. Mad Hatters provided the music and Pete North directed us very skilfully on where to place our feet in time to the music.

To round off the month, the regular third Wednesday music at the Fleur was very busy with musicians and audience. Although the title of this article is Traditional Folk Music in the Village, we did finish (before midnight) with a nostalgic visit into popular songs of the 60s and 70s. This included songs from the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart, Pink Floyd, and Credence Clearwater Revival and who knows how many more; we had to get home.

An informal music, song, recital session in the folk tradition at the bar end of the Fleur de Lys pub under the watchful eye of John Stanley. Normally starts around 9 pm. Everyone welcome and is free. Contact Geoff or Linda (817891) for further information.

Everyone is welcome to come along and watch or join in. If you can sing a bit or play a bit but feel a bit nervous, Linda and I would be glad to meet with you to help you practice one or two numbers beforehand. It doesn't have to be folk music incidentally.

What better than fine music, wonderful atmosphere, and supping your favourite tipple? It really is a great regular event for the village.
