PLAY AREA AT THE RECREATION GROUND

An application to SODC for funding has been submitted. We understand that the application should be decided by the end of February. Thank you to those on the sub committee who have worked so hard to finalise the application.

MONICA LAWSON

As the Parish Magazine is going to press, we like many others have received the sad news that Monica Lawson died suddenly on Boxing Day. She will be greatly missed as the leading force in so many areas of village life, including her significant work as Chairman of the Parish Council. She immersed herself in the responsibilities, she worked tirelessly and inspired all those around her in taking forward projects in which the Parish Council has been and is involved in. She will be sorely missed by all who have served with her on the Parish Council. Our thoughts are with her family at this time.

FLOODING

As noted last month, SODC should start work on clearing the lower channel downstream of Tadley in January, and some limited clearance of the upper channel should be agreed between the Environment Agency (EA) and landowners.
We remain concerned that national guidelines seemingly prevent the Environment Agency from carrying out more extensive work and have written to our MP, Ed Vaizey, to this effect.

SPORTS FACILITIES

Welcome news is that SODC is willing to consider alternative surfaces for the car park which will be less costly. The plans are being reassessed to identify any additional cost savings, and work is starting on a new round of grant applications. Balancing project costs and likely funding remains a challenge and it may prove necessary to stage some of the work over two years.

We would like to express our gratitude to all those who have helped with this important project, including those who prepared the questionnaire those who distributed it and not least those who have completed and returned them.
It is not too late to hand in your completed questionnaire, even though you will not qualify for the prize draw your views are important.
