ANNUAL PARISH MEETING 3rd April 2008

We were pleased to welcome a number of speakers including David Buckle the Chief Executive Officer of SODC, Patrick Greene the District & County Councillor and a number of parishioners who reported on the aspects of village life to which they are dedicated. We were pleased to see 22 members of the public. Mrs Lawson welcomed everybody and thanked all the Parish Councillors and the Clerk for all their support and hard work for the benefit of the village, tackling problems of roads, flooding and drainage, recreation, buses, dog fouling etc. A major problem in Blewbury Road with flooding has been energetically followed up by Mr J. Townsend, Mr J. Cox and Mr D. Rickeard with the Environment Agency, OCC and SODC with some success and promises of financial help.

Road Condition & Flooding

We have been advised by Oxfordshire Highways Department that New Road is within this year’s programme for “surface dressing”. Also, at the Annual Parish Meeting it was reported by Mr Greene that the Council has made funds available within their budget to help mitigate flooding problems in some areas of the village that are known to flood.

Mobile Library Service – New Timetable

From 4th June the Mobile Library will be in the Village Hall car park between 9.15 and 9.25 am and every alternate Wednesday thereafter.

Thames & Chilterns in Bloom

We have entered the competition again this year. Past competition judges have commended us on the excellently maintained public areas and naturalised meadow and feel we have exhibited an excellent community spirit. However, we have in the past let ourselves down by not clearing up stray litter. Please help us to win this year by keeping the village clean, trim and tidy. Thank you in anticipation of your help.

Butts Piece

As reported at the Annual Parish Meeting the Parish Council is soon to complete on a new lease of this piece of land. Extending to some 3.5 acres it is, at the moment, all but abandoned. There are, however, some important wildlife habitats which are to be retained, particularly at the northern edge of the site (close to the Sustrans route). The remaining area could be put to a variety of uses including allotments, a “kick-about” area etc. A small group has formed including our local conservationist, a landscape architect and a local resident (keen to have an input). If you would like to become involved please contact the Parish Clerk ~ Mr Robin Parsley on Tel: 814687

Annual Litter Pick 5th April

We would like to thank all those adults and especially the children who gave up some of their day to clear the village of rubbish. It has really made a difference.

Neighbourhood Watch

Mrs Parker gave an informative talk at the Annual Parish Meeting on the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme. There are 17 Schemes within the village. If you are interested in becoming a member of an existing group or would like to establish a scheme please contact Sarah Parker on 01235 816014

There is a new notice board for the latest news on the subject outside the village shop. Mrs Parker reminded us of the importance of reporting all crimes. The local police and Police Community Support Officers contact number is 08458 50 55 05
